Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI)

The BFHI is a global program that was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 1991 to encourage and recognize hospitals and maternity centers that oﬀer an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother and baby bonding. Since 1992 to 2011, 74 percent (499 out of 670) hospitals were certified and designated as ‘Baby-Friendly’. Since then, National Nutrition Services (NNS), IPHN initiated revitalization of BFHI in 2012 where BBF was the implementing organization.

BBF has trained up diﬀerent government and non-government health facilities (medical college hospitals, tertiary hospitals, district hospitals, MCWC, UHC and private hospitals) by the support of National Nutrition Services (NNS).
