Oketani Lactation Management

Introduction:

This project contributed to No. 7 IYCF strategy.

The Oketani method is the unique breast management method created by Ms. Sotomi Oketani. This is the painless massage on connective tissue of breast which stimulates and loosens the breast tissue. So milk secretion promotes and baby can suck easily. Therefore, Bangladesh Government has taken the step to train up this method to nurses and midwives in our country to strengthen their knowledge and skills. In the financial year 2017-18, this project was financially supported by IPHN, NNS, MoHFW and implemented by BBF. Total 12 Oketani Lactation Management Trainings were conducted at Dhaka Division.

Objectives:

To increase knowledge and skills of nurses and midwives on Oketani Lactation Management (OLM) through training program.

Outcome:

1. Total 7 workshops were held for 2 days to develop a module on Oketani Technique where Oketani Experts, Gynaecologists, Paediatricians, Nurses were involved for making this curriculum.

2. Total 20 nurses were trained as a Master Trainer.

3. Total 300 nurses were received TOT.
